My mental health has had numerous highs and lows in the past year or so. I can't afford therapy, so I'm here, learning from older, wiser messes.

I've only been around for a week or so, but I already love this community. There's so much positivity, and genuine empathy. I plan to be around for a while.

Haha, older, wiser messes.

I could have written this post myself! I have ignored my mental health for such a long time, its amazing the progress I have made with the things I have read here in a few short weeks. To find a place like this exists where I can talk openly about my anxiety and get actual useful advice instead of judgement is priceless. I look forward to checking this forum every day now, it's like my safe space. I haven't seen any judgement only genuinely helpful and kind people who are taking the time to help each other.

Hmm, not sure how I feel about being an older, wiser mess :)

You might want to try reading Feeling Good by David Burns MD. This book was so helpful to me when I was battling generalized anxiety, and its methods have been shown to work for depression as well. It's a book you can work through on your own and pick what pieces of cognitive behavior therapy work for you.

And, as you said, this forum is a good place to find help. It's always helpful to find a place where you feel safe and where others can share their experiences working through the same things you are.

I am so glad that you have joined this strong community, while it isn't necessarily a replacement for therapy, it is a huge assist. If you are ever in need to direct conversation, don't hesitate to reach out! Mental health isn't meant to be a battle for one.

Welcome to the forum! It's beautiful that you've been able to come to terms with the fact that you have room for improvement. Many people never even think about this stuff. I applaud your courage for sharing this. I wish you the best of luck!

You are not alone! I struggle with depression and anxiety; I take medication and try to live a positive lifestyle. Even still, my life is a hot mess. It's actually not me that is a mess, it's those around me, but I get stressed out by trying to be a helper and a fixer. I've started seeing a new counselor, I joined some online support groups, and I try to remind myself that another person's burdens are not my weight to carry. I detach with love and focus on one day at a time. It's not easy, sometimes I lose my focus. But overall, i find myself in a better place at this time in my life. I'm learning to let go, and what a difference that makes!

There are certainly many things that you can find here to help you along your path to enlightenment, empowerment, and emotional ease! That stated, if you feel like therapy could be beneficial do know that many therapists have sliding scales... so there's still hope in that aspect. That said, it's always great to learn from others, including messes such as myself! Welcome to the forum.

Hopefully you'll find some great resources here to help you along your way!
