Preventing Perfectionism

How do you prevent perfectionism from getting in the way of accomplishing things?

In college I had a difficult time finishing papers because I would get caught up in how a sentence was worded or how it sounded when I read it to myself out loud. Now, it takes me a little longer than it should to type up email correspondence for example, because I’m worried about how it might sound to the person on the other end. This habit shows up in other ways in my life as well: getting ready in the morning, cleaning the house, cooking etc.

I swear I never used to be like this, as far as i can remember. I’d like to trick my brain into worrying less, especially about how my words sound or appear to others, but things are often lost in translation nowadays.
