Meditation Help

I was told that meditation is very relaxing, and that sometimes you can be so relaxed that you come out of your body. I want to know if anyone has ever done this before, and if so, how can it be done? I have tried and have been very close, but I believe that extreme focus might be needed, and I do not know what I need to do in order to maintain this focus. Any ideas?
I used to mediate in 40 minute sessions, and sometimes I would feel kind of like I was on a trip. The feeling was like descending down a dark tunnel. It was entirely psychological though. I think longer sessions are your best bet.
